Watch_Dogs, one of Ubisofts crowning jewels for the upcoming "next-generation" consoles has been delayed today. Fan's looking forward to playing the title will have to wait for spring 2014, as per Ubisoft's official press release:
Our ambition from the start with Watch_Dogs has been to deliver something that embodies what we wanted to see in the next-generation of gaming. It is with this in mind that we’ve made the tough decision to delay the release until spring 2014.
Reasoning for the delay was vague, but pretty clear that the title may simply not be ready:
As we got closer to release, as all the pieces of the puzzle were falling into place in our last push before completion, it became clear to us that we needed to take the extra time to polish and fine tune every detail so we can deliver a truly memorable and exceptional experience.
In lue of this, I reached out to a source close to the situation to confirm that “critical bugs and financial reasons" are the cause of such delays. When questioning the financial situation, the response I got was as follows:
“Shore up line up for next year. AC4 and Watch Dogs were kind of going to battle; makes no sense at all. So free up this period for AC4 and leave next year for Watch Dogs and others. But mainly...some things needed serious work, some critical bugs”
This is not too surprising, as it seems every developer worth their weight has expressed the difficulty, time and money needed to develop for the coming generation. Lets just hope it’s for the best, as many fan’s will surly be upset with this news.
