Truth be told, it was no surprise on Saturday when Cristian Oviedo and Liz Lira were announced as the champions of the Salsa dance competition that The Granada had been hosting for the past two months.  Oviedo and Lira have been on a winning spree in and out of town with their beautifully performed dance moves that continue to get them not only the needed points from the judges but the admiration of the audience.  With aerials, slides, twists and turns that would definitely hurt were they to go wrong, the pair's confident moves get nothing but gasps and applause from everyone watching.

Oviedo and Lira were all smiles upon receiving the first place ribbons and trophies, and why wouldn't they when their well rehearsed three-minute performance reportedly sent them home with four thousand dollars.  It was not a bad night either for Luis Mendez and Ashley Magana, who placed second, nor for Melissa Bruno and Steven Correa, who finished third.

This was the second year that The Granada, a Salsa club in Alhambra quite popular for Salsa dancers and music lovers in the area, held the dance competition.  Besides offering a restaurant, a full bar, an ample wooden floor, and an outdoor patio, The Granada hosts local and visiting Salsa bands and artists on Fridays and Saturdays each week.
