At the northern part of San Francisco lies Crissy Field, stretching 3.3 miles along the Presidio. It is rich in history as it used to be a military airport, but now has become a park for both camera-clad tourists and local joggers alike. Parts of the former military base are still preserved as Fort Point is one of the military forts still preserved and open to the public.
Honestly, there aren’t many activities to do in Crissy Field besides taking a walk and admiring the San Francisco Bay scenery, but it is in the vicinity of many attractions nearby, such as the Palace of Fine Arts (that Greek-esque dome that everyone always question) and the San Francisco Exploratorium. Best of all, it provides a view of Alcatraz and a path for you to walk west to the Golden Gate Bridge.
Many people do come here to do activities slightly atypical from the usual walking crowd. Some come here to walk their dogs; others come to bird watch in the marsh area, ride a bike, or have a picnic.
The scenic view of the ocean is worth the visit. Unlike many other places in San Francisco, parking here is free!
