The actor, director, screener, recording artist and author Crispin Glover is coming to Chicago’s own historical Music Box January 13 and 14! Glover is typically only known as an actor (River’s Edge, Charlie’s Angels and most notably as George McFly in Back to the Future), but what is overlooked is his directorial work. What Is It?and It is Fine. EVERYTHING IS FINE are each cutting edge masterpieces, relevantly unknown to the ordinary moviegoer.
Haven't seen them? Now is your chance!
The evening will begin with Glover projecting children’s books he has altered with blackened out text and drawn-in creatures and demons in an attempt to reinvent those once innocent fables. It will entertain some and horrify the faint of heart. But this only serves as a transition for Glover’s next attraction and most recognized work, What Is It?.
What Is It? is a provocative, surrealist and image-filled film about a young man’s inner and outer struggles with villains and demons. The film features a cast of actors with Down syndrome (and the porn stars Kiva and Zoryna Dreams) through the nightmarish tale of misunderstood genius tormented by his own conscience.
The film is a controversial and unexpected move by Glover, who is typically only recognized by his major, but mainly minor Hollywood parts. This $150,000 budget film (which was originally intended to be a short film and took over a decade to complete) should not steer anyone way from his self-funded masterpiece (Glover has stated he only took the Charlie’s role solely to fund its sequel).
What Is It? will be shown January 13 (Friday the 13th!)
The following day The Music Box will be a screening of Glover’s It is Fine. EVERYTHING IS FINE. It stars the underappreciated Steven C. Stewart in a semiautobiographical film about himself as a psychosexual cerebral palsy victim with a fetish for girls with long hair (reminiscent of Glover’s character in Charlie’s Angels). The film is part horror, part documentary and absolutely weird and uncanny.
What Is It? and It is Fine. EVERYTHING IS FINE are the zenith of human creativity, spearheaded by one of the most overlooked directors in cinema’s history.
Glover has previously stated that, “It is Fine! EVERYTHING IS FINE will probably be the best film he has anything to do with in his entire career”.
It is Fine. EVERYTHING IS FINE will be shown January 14.
The screenings will conclude with a presentation and Q&A that will be without a doubt utilized by the jarred and nonplussed audience.
These are events you cannot miss!
