According to a report Thursday on Pro MMA Insider, Cris Santos has broken her silence regarding Fallon Fox's desire to compete as a female in MMA.
Santos has spoken out regarding her feelings on the Fallon Fox situation that is the talk of the women’s MMA community. As the first known transgender female to compete, there has been a lot of discussion as to whether or not she should be able to compete against women, considering at one time she was a man. As one of the highest profile female fighters out there, as well as being most likely the most powerful, a lot of people were wanting to hear Cyborg’s take on the controversy.
Many of the women currently competing have been reluctant at best to give Fallon Fox their blessing, pointing out that no matter what drugs she may take to transform herself, traits of her previous life as a male will remain. Particularly the strength of bones as well as other differences that she would still have. Cris Santos, who herself is a controversial figure given her strength and previously failing a drug test for PED’s, defended Fox, saying she will fight anyone.
In an interview with ESPN, Cris Santos commented on the situation.
“She wants to be a girl. I don’t agree, I think you’re born a girl, you’re a girl. You’re born a guy, you’re a guy. But I don’t choose opponents. The commission needs to check and make sure she doesn’t have testosterone.”
“I’m not going to judge other people. If the commission says she can fight, why not?”
Santos went on to say she understands the difficulties Fox is likely facing.
“People tell me on Twitter: ‘I think you have a d—. A lot of bad things, they say. I think people have a small mind.”
“They don’t think a girl can punch hard like a man. I think people are ignorant. People are stupid. I don’t want to be the same as people who do that.”
Even though hearing the thoughts of Santos are interesting, it is unlikely that they will go very far in helping Fallon Fox get approved to fight. The endorsement of a fighter who is considered a cheater by many isn’t likely to hold much weight. However, her willingness to fight Fox would certainly set up the most marketable fight either of them could currently have in the event Fox does somehow get approved.
