According to a Jan. 28 report from MMA Junkie, hard-hitting knockout artist Cris "Cyborg" Santos (12-1, 1 NC) is being looked at to defend her Invicta FC featherweight title against Ediane "India" Gomes (10-2) in the main event of Invicta FC 8.
Invicta FC President Shannon Knapp said the event will likely be held in March, although the exact date has not yet been revealed.
In the past, Invicta FC has purposely avoided going head-to-head with the UFC and other high-level MMA events, so that means the promotion will not likely hold Invicta FC 8 on March 1, 8, 15 or 23.
The UFC already has the aforementioned dates booked. However, Invicta FC officials could do what they did for Invicta FC 7, by booking a show on the same weekend as one of the UFC's international events.
The UFC is holding events in England, China and Brazil in March, so Invicta FC should have plenty of space to book a date that wouldn't air at the same time as one of those shows.
Knapp also said that Invicta FC 8 might not be held in Kansas City, Missouri. That statement comes as a bit of a shocker, being that the promotion's first seven events were all held in Kansas City.
Santos, 28, hasn't competed at an Invicta FC 6 event since July of last year, when she defeated Marloes Coenen to earn the promotion's inaugural featherweight strap.
Overall, Santos is 2-0 under the Invicta FC banner.
As for Gomes, she's also undefeated in her Invicta FC fights. Gomes, 33, last fought at Invicta FC 4, where she defeated Hiroko Yamanaka.
More details about Invicta FC 8 will surely emerge in the days and weeks ahead.
