"Criminal Minds" returns for its ninth season with "The Inspiration," and there are some changes in the BAU after The Replicator targeted the team last year. On Tuesday, Sept. 24, CBS released a sneak peek teasing one of those changes.
In the "Criminal Minds" season 9 premiere, the team travels to Arizona to track down an increasingly devolving UnSub. That's where guest stars Fred Koehler and Camryn Manheim come into play, as the UnSub and the mother of the UnSub. Meanwhile, the team wonders if Hotch (Thomas Gibson) could be the new unit chief permanently. With Strauss dead, he's taken on the role on a temporary basis, and Esai Morales isn't coming in as Mateo Cruz, the new section chief until episode 4, "To Bear Witness."
The "The Inspiration" sneak peek to the left shows Rossi (Joe Mantegna) finding Hotch in his office after yet another all-nighter due to the extra duties of his second job, and he remembers Strauss used to bring the work home with her. So how long is Hotch going to be pulling double duty? They want him to take the job full time—which would mean leaving the BAU—and he's bought himself time by asking them to post the position.
"Criminal Minds" season 9 airs Wednesdays at 9 p.m. on CBS. What do you think of the premiere clip from "The Inspiration"?
