"Criminal Minds" season 9 premieres next month, and on Wednesday, Aug. 28, CBS released a new preview of episode 1, "The Inspiration," teasing the BAU's first case of the fall.
Now that "Criminal Minds" has taken care of The Replicator, the team can move back to stand-alone cases, and that's how the ninth season kicks off. In the premiere, the hunt for a methodical killer who is increasingly devolving takes the BAU to Arizona. That's where Camryn Manheim, who is playing Carla Hines, the protective mother of the UnSub in a two episode arc, comes in, with Fred Koehler playing her son, Wallace Hines.
Meanwhile, the team wonders if Hotch (Thomas Gibson) is in the running to be the new unit chief. As you probably remember, Strauss was one of The Replicator's victims as season 8 ended. However, we already know that Esai Morales is going to be recurring as the new Section Chief, Matt Cruz, something we were happy to learn since we like Hotch in his role as team leader. Plus, Cruz has a previous working relationship with JJ (AJ Cook), which we assume goes back to her days away from the BAU (days we don't like to think about) with the Department of Defense.
The season 9 premiere "The Inspiration" promo to the left shows that some things don't change. The previews are still all about the UnSub and his (or her) victims. In this case, we get a look at Koehler as Wallace, and as Reid (Matthew Gray Gubler) explains, "he believes all women are out to get him." This guy is delusional, this case is creepy, and JJ and Morgan (Shemar Moore) are in serious trouble as the promo ends.
"Criminal Minds" season 9 premieres Wednesday, Sept. 25 at 9 p.m. on CBS. What do you think of the episode 1 "The Inspiration" promo?
