The BAU is going on a witch hunt! Well, they are actually hunting a guy who believes he is hunting witches. There is not a lot of time spent on why Leeland, the unsub, believes what he does, other than the fact that his ancestors hunted witches in Salem. The writers also don’t really explain what exactly is going on in his mind. He definitely is seeing things, and at times, it is like he is incapable of existing in the modern world without catching glimpses of the past. Does this happen to him all the time or only around those he believes to be witches?
Once Leeland, takes the mother and daughter into his weird cave looking place, things get a little confusing. At one point, the mother tries to play along with his delusion. She tells him that her daughter is a witch hunter and has the mark of the angel on her. Now, it is unclear if the birthmark behind her ear was in the shape of something angelic or what the writers were trying to get at here. It’s a confusion moment. Did anyone else get confused?
Anytime the writers show the team when they are off duty, it is amazing. This episode features the entire team being over at Garcia’s house to celebrate Dia de los Muertos (day of the dead). It would have been great to see more of the party before the altar stuff begins, since Garcia made the comment to Reid about being nervous at having everyone over. However, this is still a great scene. It allows each team member to reveal something personal about themselves and about their loved one. Is anyone else a little traumatized by Reid’s “scary” side?
