This is a different kind of case, and that’s a good thing. It’s back to not really knowing who the unsub is, well there is a theory but there isn’t any proof. There are a lot of things that the BAU do in this episode that haven’t really appeared in an episode in awhile. An interrogation scene is one of them. It’s been awhile since there have been an expanded interrogation scene, and this episode is a reminder of why those can be so entertaining. This episode definitely feels like an older episode of Criminal Minds, and that’s a good thing. It’s a nice change up from the “normal” episodes. Did you enjoy it?
Since the case is so unique, the writers are able to really zero in and focus on Bruce, whether that means proving his guilt or innocence. As it turns out, Bruce has Dissociate Identity Disorder. This means he has alternate personalities. There is only one that comes out, and the writers don’t really explore whether or not there is another personality. Surprisingly, Reid doesn’t step in and interrogate. It seems like an unsub with psychology issues would be right up Reid’s alley. What’s great is that JJ gets some one on one time with Bruce or well his alter. She really hasn’t had a big moment in a case in awhile, or at least it seems like it. Did you ever believe Bruce was innocent?
The real twist is that Sarah is behind it all. Now this reveal happens at the end, and there really isn’t any time spent proving it or expanding on it. There could have been maybe an interrogation scene at the end with Sarah and JJ. It’s a great twist, and it would have been great to get inside Sarah’s mindset a little more. There never is an explanation of why Sarah killed her mother. The writers do a good job of including JJ’s past with her sister in the episode. She talks a little bit to Blake about it, and in the end, it is what tips JJ off that there is something wrong with how Sarah is acting. What did you think of the Sarah twist?
