Reid: “A couple months ago when we were getting off the phone, and she said ‘bye, love you,’ just like that, ‘bye, love you.’ I know it was just a slip, but..”
Morgan: “But she said it, Reid. She said it, Reid.”

From the very beginning, it becomes clear that this is a different BAU case. They have done personal cases before, but this time the entire team is basing everything off Reid’s word, at least initially. There aren’t any meetings with local police. They are working on their personal time. This is a great episode for Reid. Not only is it a very rare chance to see Reid off his game, but also, to see everyone be there for Reid. Unfortunately there isn’t time to see everyone have a moment with Reid, but Morgan, Hotch and Blake all have a scene or two with him. Blake’s friendship with Reid has been growing, and Morgan’s friendship has always been there. Reid’s scenes with Hotch are probably the best ones just because Reid and Hotch don’t interact in that way very often. What is your favorite part of the case?
This is one of those instances that learning the identity of the unsub and spending scenes with them is beneficial to the storyline. The writers do keep the mystery of the unsub alive for a little bit, and the way Reid uncovers the identity of the unsub is fantastic. Aside from learning a lot about Diane, the scenes with her allow viewers to really get to know Maeve and her thoughts on Reid and their relationship. What would have been great is if the writers had Diane talk about the very beginnings of Diane’s stalking. What did you think of Diane?
Let’s talk about the part everyone is hoping didn’t really happen. At the very end, Diane takes not only her life but Maeve’s as well. This is an interesting and bold direction for the writers to go in. First off, Maeve and Reid’s storyline is something that was built up since the beginning of this season. While it is a dramatic and heartbreaking way for it to end, it almost seems like a wasted opportunity. On the other hand, Reid and Maeve do get to see each other and mutually come to an understanding of what their relationship means to one another and how special it is. This is one of those storylines that not everyone will approve of. What did you think of the writers decision to kill off both Diane and Maeve?
