With the ongoing federal case against BP , Transocean and Halliburton going on in court this week and gaining such attention, few people know the truth. That this is not a spectacular once in a lifetime event.
The federal courts have an aggenda where on a weekly basis there is one offshore oil and gas company or another in federal court dealing with some federal law they have been caught in violation of.
Offshore oil & gas companies are constantly in federal court being prosecuted for violation of federal laws. Its a common thing few people in the general public know or understand. The people working for offshore oil and gas companies commit criminal acts in violation of federal laws and the offshore code of " what happens offshore stays offshore " is respected by the corporate adminstrators, making the employees as well as the company criminals.
With such a large number of federal cases against such a large number of offshore oil and gas companies and their contract companies and individuals, its easy to see the industry is a hot bed of criminal activity , where the practice of " if no one reports it then there is no crime committed " , or " if you keep your mouth shut you can keep your job " , is morally corrupting a vast majority of people in the industry.
The Bureau of Safety & Environmental Enforcement is being subjected to speculation of their justification in adding an additional 300 inspectors who will make site specific visitation to offshore facilities to ensure that individuals and corporations and contractors are complying with federal laws.
Its not enough , individuals , contractors and corporaations face fines which they can afford to pay. So when convicted of a crime the " ole check " book comes out and they go back to business as usual.
Things need to change , punishment for a crime needs to be in such quantity that is "scares the hell out of anyone from even thinking about it". Thats how effective crime prevention is done. The age ole saying of the punishment needs to fit the crime, AIN'T WORKING NO MORE !
Pass legislation where failure to report a oil spill is a $ 10 MILLION DOLLAR fine and by God , no more " mystery oil slicks " will appear. Make a fine of $ 10 MILLION DOLLARS for falsifying pollution reports " and by God , pollution will quit. Make a fine of $ 100 BILLION DOLLARS for the criminal activity which BP ,. Transocean and Halliburton have committed and we will never have a Mocando blow out again , EVER. Put every no good son of a - - - - - who lied or withheld evidence or looked the other way when they knew what was going on in jail for 5 years and we will never have 11 men burn to death onboard a drilling rig again EVER .
Put criminal defense attornies out of business , make individuals , contractors and companies to darn scared to commit a crime offshore in the Gulf of Mexico.
