Crime fiction: Feb 12-Feb 18

There is one crime fiction entry on the Publishers Weekly Tip Sheet for the week of February 13 and that is from British author John Harvey. Harvey, who is a recipient of the Crime Writers Association Cartier Diamond Dagger Award for Sustained Excellence in Crime Writing, has just released a collection of short stories titled A Darker Shade of Blue.

Publishers Weekly gave the collection of 18 short stories a starred review and called it “a sterling collection.” The publication describes Harvey as a writer who is “at the top of his game.”

The Independent gave the collection four out of five stars in their review and said, “These dark, gritty crime stories set in the mean streets of modern Britain—in Soho, Sheffield, Nottingham—and peopled by gangsters, cops, drug addicts and prostitutes, aren't feel-good reading, but they are compelling.”

Noir crime fiction is extremely popular and Harvey’s new collection, which features several recurring characters, is likely to find a strong audience with fans of the genre.

Harvey has written over 100 novels and has a new novel titled Good Bait that was released in January. In addition to the Diamond Dagger Award, Harvey has also received the British Crime Writers Association Silver Dagger Award. Learn more about John Harvey on his website at mellotone.co.uk
