In yesterday’s article on Christianity—Fake religion; real violence—we looked at how “real” Christianity (that is, adhering to the actual text of the Bible instead of just paying lip service to it) requires believers to do some awful things, from killing children who curse their parents to killing anyone who they think is a which. Today, we are going to do something similar with Islam—we’re going to look at Muslim Shari’ah law.
The accusation has been for some time that Shari’ah law is brutal and barbaric; the response from the Islamic community has been, “No, that’s not true. That’s only if you look at certain parts. Islam is a peaceful, beautiful, loving religion. We don’t follow those parts.” Sound familiar? It’s the same trick that Christians use to dismiss the brutal code of laws in their Bible.
Let’s begin our investigation with Tony Blair, former Prime Minister of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, who has this little gem posted on his blog, from Reliance of the Traveller: A Classic Manual of Islamic Sacred Law:

pg. 613 “THE PENALTY FOR THEFT…. A person’s right hand is amputated, whether he is a Muslim, non-Muslim subject of the Islamic state, or someone who has left Islam….”
pg. 616 “THE PENALTY FOR HIGHWAY ROBBERY…. If he steals the equivalent of 1.058 grams of gold…, both his right hand and left foot are amputated…. If the highwayman robs and kills, he is killed and then left crucified for three days.”
pg. 610 “THE PENALTY FOR FORNICATION OR SODOMY…. If the offender is someone with the capacity to remain chaste, then he or she is stoned to death….”
pg. 595 “APOSTASY FROM ISLAM (RIDDA)…. When a person who has reached puberty and is sane voluntarily apostatizes from Islam, he deserves to be killed.”
pg. 617 “THE PENALTY FOR DRINKING…. The penalty for drinking is to be scourged forty stripes, with hands, sandals, and ends of clothes. It may be administered with a whip, but if the offender dies, an indemnity… is due… for his death.” [This penalty applies only to Muslims.]

The Qur’an itself says…
5:38: “[As for] the thief, the male and the female, amputate their hands in recompense for what they committed as a deterrent [punishment] from Allah . And Allah is Exalted in Might and Wise.”
24:2: “The [unmarried] woman or [unmarried] man found guilty of sexual intercourse - lash each one of them with a hundred lashes, and do not be taken by pity for them in the religion of Allah , if you should believe in Allah and the Last Day. And let a group of the believers witness their punishment.”
4:15: “Those who commit unlawful sexual intercourse of your women - bring against them four [witnesses] from among you. And if they testify, confine the guilty women to houses until death takes them or Allah ordains for them [another] way.”
So there you have it—Islam, like Judaism and Christianity, rests upon not just religious beliefs, but a political system that dictates crime and punishment to the state. And Muslims cannot even attempt the classic Christian lie, that Jesus’ coming frees them of Old Testament laws.
In conclusion, the Islamic code of laws is, as is sadly the case with most revealed religions, somewhat disturbing. Though Muslims claim a God of love, compassion, mercy, and peace (as the followers of all religions claim), it is the usual case that their own Holy Book tells a different story. Islam pays lip service to these concepts of harmony, while promoting violence, brutality, and barbarism.
Such is love of Allah.
