The Crested Butte Wine & Food Festival, information of which is being published here today, is being held from Wednesday, July 20 through Sunday, July 24, with a host of celebrity chefs, wine masters, seminars and events in the town of Crested Butte and at Crested Butte Mountain Resort.
Here’s the schedule of events for the festival:
Wednesday, July 20
James Beard Foundation Celebrity Chef Tour: The tour starts at 6:30 p.m. at Uley’s Cabin and features chefs Carla Hall and Jesse Griffiths and sommeliers Sean Razee and Brett Zimmerman. The cost is $200 per person and $375 per couple.
Thursday, July 21
Pinots, Noir and More: All about Pinots – Noir, Gris, Blanc, Dijon clones, and what is Pinot anyway? It’s presented by David Walden of Heck Estates at the Room & Board Lunge at 1 p.m. at the Room & Board Lounge at the Red Lady Lift, Crested Butte Mountain Resort, and costs $30.
The Wines & Spirits of Southwest France: Julien Ducos from the Bordeaux region of France presents this seminar about all the popular wine and spirits produced in France at 3 p.m. at the Room & Board Lounge at the Red Lady Lift, Crested Butte Mountain Resort, and costs $40.
Crested Butte Land Trust Celebration of Conservation Event: Taking place at 5:30 p.m. at the Silver Queen Event Site at Crested Butte Mountain Resort, this event includes libations, tapas, dancing under the stars and an auction ranging from global excursions to vintage wine. Cost is $100 and all proceeds benefit the Crested butte Land Trust. Call 970-349-1206 for more information.
Friday, July 22
Old World v. New World: This new seminar features a panel of master sommeliers and wine experts – including Damon Ornowski, Brett Zimmerman, Sean Razee, Dan Kratzer and Shelley Sale – with debate and crowd involvement about which is better, Old World or New World? The seminar/debate starts at 11 a.m. at the Room & Board Lounge at the Red Lady Lift, Crested Butte Mountain Resort, and costs $40.
Bubbles: As the title implies, Sean Razee will discuss champagnes and where bubbles pair better with food than most wines. The bubbles bubble at 1 p.m. at the Room & Board Lounge at the Red Lady Lift, Crested Butte Mountain Resort, and costs $50.
VIP Reserve Tasting: This tasting is limited to 100 attendees in a more intimate setting where guests sample wines that retail for more than $65 per bottle and chat with wine makers and sommeliers about wine selection. Tasting begins at 3 p.m. at the Room & Board Lounge at the Red Lady Lift, Crested Butte Mountain Resort, and costs $95.
Creations and Libations: Held at the base of Crested Butte Mountain Resort (Silver Queen Event Center), paint and taste wine with various artists for $30 per person.
James Beard Celebrity Chef Tour: This dinner at Uley’s Cabin at 5:30 p.m. will be with chefs Matt Selby, Alex Seidel and Eric Skokan and sommeliers Damon Ornowski and Lionello Marchesi for $200 per person and $375 per couple.
Saturday, July 23
Wines of Tuscany: Lionello Marchesi from Italy has created numerous wines that have earned the 90-plus point rating from critics around the world. Marchesi will discuss Tuscany wines at 1 p.m. at the Elevation Hotel at Crested Butte Mountain Resort. The cost to attend is $40.
Italy, the Road Less Well-Traveled: More from Italy with Darin Ray and Dan Kratzer at the Elevation Hotel at 3 p.m. The cost for this seminar is $40.
Grand Tasting: This Wine & Food Festival nightcap will feature more than 250 different wines from around the world, a selection of light hors d’oeuvres and a food demonstration by Elise Wiggins, executive chef of Panzano in Denver. Tickets are $70 per adults over 21 ($80 the day of the event), and $20 for children under 12 and designated drivers. Any orders placed this week before the event will be available at will-call. The Grand Tasting takes place from 4-7 p.m. at the Silver Queen Event site at Crested Butte Mountain Resort.
