Aimee Creger has been a prominent force in Tulsa’s pitching in recent seasons. Now she is in the school record books. The senior ace from Yukon, Okla. Got her 26th career shutout, which set a TU record, in the Golden Hurricane’s 3-0 win over No. 18 Louisville Saturday in the FAU Kickoff Classic.

Creger (1-0) threw a two-hitter in seven innings with eight strikeouts for her first shutout of the season. She set the school record for career shutouts, surpassing Jenny Magill, who had 25 shutouts from 1999 through 2002.

A three-shot home run from Erica Sampson accounted for the only runs of the game.

The Golden Hurricane (4-1) got their only loss in the event with a 1-0 loss to host Florida Atlantic later in the day.

TU finished the event on Sunday with 2-1 win against Northern Illinois. The winning run was scored in the bottom of the seventh inning when Sampson was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, allowing pinch-runner Brittany Walker to cross home.

Junior Bailey Erwin (2-0) got the win, allowing one run on three hits.

Tulsa opened the season Friday with wins against St. Johns’s (5-1) and Ohio State (1-0 in eight innings). The Golden Hurricane got the winning run in the bottom of the eighth as Jill Barrett hit a two-out single to score Maggie Whithee.

Creger pitched seven scoreless innings but the win went to Erwin. Caitlin Sill (1-0) got the mound victory against St. John’s.
