Sunday, August 17, a fund raising benefit was held at O'Riley's for Anita Hollen, who has been battling cancer for eight long years. Anita has been a supporter of the Dallas music scene for many years. On this day several bands and many friends came out to show their support for Anita in return. The event was put together by a face well known around Dallas, a musician called "Bastard".
Headlining the event was Creeper, introducing their new singer, Texx, to some longtime fans of the band. Even though it was his third show with Creeper, it was the first time that I had seen the new line-up perform, and I have to say that I was impressed. Not to say that Daniel Watkins, the previous frontman, did not do an awesome job, but the band now has a totally new style. Familiar favorites of the band , "Now", "Push It", "10 Bells", "Crushing", "Hell To Pay", "Room #9" and "Screaming Demon" were played, but there was a new brutal edge in the band's sound, a new hardcore energy radiating from the stage. This band is one that you want to keep an eye out for if you are a metal fan. Other members of Creeper are Jimi Fritz on guitar, Bryan Lunos on bass, and Brian Gutowski once again on drums.
Overall, the event was a success, raising well over $1600 to help Anita with her enormous medical expenses. Even though Anita herself was not able to attend, due to being hospitalized at Remington Medical Rehabilitation Center, she has expressed her deep gratitude to everyone involved and in attendance for showing their concern and support.
