I am hopelessly addicted. I bought my wife a towel warmer for Christmas, and can hardly wait for my shower to be over so that I can smother my face in that hot towel. I am amazed how a simple thing like a warm towel after a shower can bring such pleasure into my life. As we start a new year it is good to remember some of the little pleasures that make life worthwhile, most of which do not cost much.
Upon opening the bedroom door, the smell of freshly brewed coffee, set the night before, fills my nostrils with a wonderful aroma that encourages me to tackle the rest of the day. When I leave for work my dog comes down the stairs to see my off and get a couple of pets.
Sometimes I forget to notice the trees and the hills, and the environment around me, but I can never ignore the ocean and the sky that sweeps over it. When I come home at night, the sun is setting over Catalina in some of the most spectacular displays of nature. It almost always makes me think of God.
Though I am disturbed at the direction this country is heading, I am so happy that I live in this majestic enterprise of America. Except for these two short centuries, man has always lived in tyranny and oppression. I cherish my personal freedoms. We are not a divided country. Though we fight for control of the steering wheel, we have not gone off the road yet, and if we work together we can still stabilize this thing.
In this coming year lets struggle to find our most cherished common ground and work for the good of ALL the people. May this year find you peace and happiness, and may you, this year, discover the love of God.
