Chula Vista, CA December 8, 2013
15 year old Alejandra Mejia is one of the most promising up and coming artists in the San Diego area. Her ability to create using various mediums is indeed incredible. A student at Hilltop High School in Chula Vista, CA, Alex, as most of her friends call her, is in their advanced art class and is also a long standing member of, "The Art Kids of San Diego County." She stands under five foot yet her impression on the art community is giant. Someone with this kind of talent cannot be unnoticed. Her artwork and community service speaks for its self.
She works on murals which help promote art within the South Bay area of San Diego and volunteered for the Imperial Beach Fire Department's Open house which she has done the past three years. She does face and body painting at that event and was also at the Day of the Dead event in National City where she worked on a number of kids. Her enthusiasm for the visual arts can be seen in her work and on the 16th of December She, with a few other young artists, will be displaying their work at the Chula Vista Superior Court House. Her work will be on display from December 16th till the end of January 2014.
Alex has donated her time and talents to other community events such as the Cancer Society, The Health Center of San Ysidro, The South Bayfront Artists Association and to the Lion's Club International. Giving back to the community is indeed an important part of Alex's art as her work speaks very loud for this talented young lady. Her desire and goal in life is to become an even greater artist.
Her entry into this year's Christmas Card competition for, "The Art Kids," is no stranger to her as she has already been published and used when she won the Christmas card competition when she was in Fifth Grade. She competed with some 10,000 students and won that year's honors. The design was used by the entire district for that year's Christmas Card. My advice to my readers is to keep an eye out for her work as the prices are going to soar. One may see other works by Alex on, "The Art Kids," website: www.takosdc.com
