When you combine the talents of an art teacher, art enthusiast and the love of kids, what can you come up with? Kim Finnegan, former art teacher in the Pacelli School System in Austin, Minnesota is teaching a children class in connection with the Paint the Town Pink Celebration going on city wide from February 2-5 including the Austin’s Oak Park Mall. This class, fun for all ages, is geared for the children but parents are more than welcome to come along with their children!
This event will be held at the Austin Area Art Center in Oak Park Mall on February 4 from 9-11 AM. Kids in kindergarten on up are welcomed to attend. They will be exploring a variety of art mediums and techniques to create an array of special valentines, including weaving, paper cutting, marbleizing, and wax. All students need to bring is a paint shirt and all the other supplies will be provided!
The cost for this class is $15 for nonmembers and $12 for members. To register for this class, contact the Austin Area Art Center at 507-433-8451, by email at aaacoil@smig.net! You can even pay for the class online at our Donate Now Page powered by Razoo. Just use the other category and put in the dollar amount for the class. Then call the center at 507-433-8451 and let us know you just registered for the class. It’s a quick and simple way to do it! You can also register in person at the art center during our normal business hours of 12-4 Wednesday through Sunday’s.

The Paint the Town Pink celebration is fundraiser for The Hormel Institute’s world renowned breast cancer research facility located in Austin. In 2011, the community packed Riverside Arena to capacity for the Austin Bruin’s first “Paint the Rink Pink” hockey game, raising more than $22,000 for the institute. This year, the event has spread throughout Austin and the Art Center is pleased to offer this class at the same time as the larger celebration is going on in Austin! Come on out to the celebration as well as the class on Creative Valentines.
