Creative Scotland sends six bands to SXSW

Austin, Texas will be invaded by six bands from Scotland come March, when South by South West festival begins. Creative Scotland has raised the funding, in association with the Scottish Music Industry Association, to send six of their best bands to the festival as part of a showcase of Scottish talent.

The bands selected for the 2014 Scottish Music Showcase are Casual Sex, Holy Esque, Honeyblood, Prides, Withered Hand, and Young Fathers. Several other Scottish bands are also playing SXSW, but without the sponsorship of the Showcase or Creative Scotland: Cairn String Quartet, PAWS, Rustie, Saor Patrol, Twin Atlantic, We Were Promised Jetpacks, and The Xcerts.

Creative Scotland hopes that the bands they have sent as representatives will use SXSW as a platform to make connections and meet those who can help them take their music worldwide.

Several of the SXSW acts have already played North America, but not all. Casual Sex just came off an opening gig on Franz Ferdinand's tour in October 2013. They shared with The Skinny last week how they are hopeful to score a label during their trip to Austin.

Anyone able to attend SXSW should definitely check out the Scottish Music Showcase and these fresh acts with lots of promise.
