After life comes death, and there are typically two choices after death. You may or may not have a say, but it’s likely that you will either be buried or cremated. Options after creation are numerous. Ashes can be kept in an urn, scattered over the land or sea or simply tossed into the wind.
By 2017, one of every two Americans will be cremated. And according to the Sept. 3, MSN News, some creative thinkers have come up with new ways to “stash your ash.”
According to the report, one company will “immortalize you by having your ashes baked into vinyl records” while another will “incorporate ash into the creation of everything from sculptures to sun catchers to walking sticks.”
Eternal Reefs of Decatur, Ga. offers an alternative to spreading your ashes over the water; they will mix your ash with concrete “to create a pearl-shaped ‘reef’ that provides safe haven for sea creatures.”
And LifeGem of Elk Grove Village, Ill. offers an attractive plan to press your ash into a diamond.
Just imagine the humor years from now… At your garage sale, a consumer picks up a delicate ceramic dish and asks, “Was this your grandmother’s?” And you reply, “That IS my grandmother!”
Or better yet, a woman admiring your diamond pendant asks, “Did your husband give you that beautiful diamond? And you simply reply “Yes! And he damn well paid a price for it!”
Gives a whole new meaning to "just hanging around." Doesn't it?
