When the weather finally breaks it is nice to workout outdoors. This can be achieved by using many items around the house or that can be acquired easily. A used car tire is a great tool. Depending on your strength and tire size it can be used for weight lifting or plyometrics. You can hold the tires to perform exercises like squats or lunges. The difficulty can be modified by the holding position. Holding the tire at your side will be the easiest, and then you can hold it at chest level. Holding the tire above your head will give you the greatest challenge. You can even use them to perform bent rows or shoulder presses. Throwing the tires will increase explosive strength. The tires can be thrown out, up, up and over you, rotational throws, and ground slams. Large tractor tires can also be used for flipping for a total body workout. This has become popular in workouts such as Crossfit and boot camps.
Wheelbarrows are useful for total body carrying strength. All you have to do is load it up and perform walks for time or distance. Large abnormally shaped objects work for well also. Large rocks, cinder blocks, and bags of sand or mulch can be carried. Carrying objects develop what is referred to strength endurance. This is the ability to express strength for sustained periods of time. So get outside and freshen up your workout.
