Creative holiday decoration ideas for work

There’s nothing better than the holiday season. From Christmas to Thanksgiving and New Year it’s a string of parties, presents and good food. Decorating your office is without a doubt the best way to get into the spirit of things.

While purchasing most of your decorations from a supplier is the easiest way to transform a space, having a few stand-out home-made pieces will add the finishing unique touches. So, what are the best creative decoration ideas?

Wreathes

Home-made wreathes are an attractive holiday decoration, and can make any door look extra festive. Depending on the materials you use, they can also give off a delicious holiday aroma to compliment your carefully selected decor!

You can easily make a base from two wire coat hangers, by attaching together and then bending them out to make a circle. You can then select your materials- festive varieties such as holly and pine combined with a red bow work particularly well, but more unusual materials such as leaves and baubles can also look great.

Simply, attach the foliage or other items to the frame using lightweight floral wire. This guide from Save On Crafts has useful step by step diagrams.

Glitter and Metallic Spray Paints

You can transform a wide variety of household objects into festive delights with the simple addition of glitter or metallic spray paint. Stick to traditional holiday colors such as red, green, silver and gold and dot the finished products around your home or office –unbelievably simple but it really is effective!

Pine cones are one of the easiest options, and if you can’t find any on the ground they are stocked in most crafts shops. Alternative options include covering fake fruit or deer in glitter.

Creative ornaments

Creative ornaments can be the perfect addition to a tree or can simply be hung around your house or office. These penguin light bulb ornaments are completely adorable and can be easily made with glass paint and a pretty ribbon. Why not create a variety of designs such as snow men and Santa Claus?

Great twists on a classic are these yarn candy cane ornaments. Wrap red and white cotton around a red pipe cleaner, and adorn with a small red bow.

Alternatively, a fun one to do with the kids are these felt snowman ornaments. Cut out the body and head from white felt, the hat eyes, mouth and buttons from black felt, and the nose from orange felt. Stick it all together with fabric glue, attach ribbon loops and Voila! – He’s good to go! You can adapt this to include more complicated characters for older children.

Plants and Flowers

Plants and flowers are a great way to add some festive cheer to your space. You can create attractive decorations by cutting sections of plants such as pine and holly, and tying them together with a red ribbon.

Stringing plants like pine and holly along banisters and around fireplaces, also adds a really rustic festive feel. You’ll be amazed how simply adding some to a room or around a feature such as a candle holder, can suddenly transform a space into a holiday haven.

Alternatively, grow indoor flowering plants in festive colors to add some delicious fragrances to the mix.

Lighting

Of all decorations, lighting is perhaps the most powerful when it comes to creating atmosphere. If you fancy adding something a little different to your lighting scheme this year, these glowing presents could be just the ticket.

Buy some budget glass vases and fill them with fairy lights. Then wrap a colored ribbon around the vase and tie in a bow on top, to create the look of a wrapped present.

For the home, there is a lot that you can do with candles. An incredibly simple but atmospheric idea is to place tea lights in colored bottles, or in glass vases that you have decorated with glass paint.

Adding creative features to your office decoration is great fun, and can perfectly compliment your underlying theme with a personal touch. From your kids to colleagues, everyone can get involved with the design and production.
