According to a report today from VG 24/7, Battlefield 4 creative director Lars Gustavsson said DICE developed the game with newer players in mind.

In the past the Battlefield series has been criticized for not being pick-up-and-play friendly, which Gustavsson said DICE has heard and is working to alleviate.

Battlefield 4 will feature things like a test range for players to practice flying the transport helicopter without flying into friends to changing the menus to give players a better understanding of how they can customize attachments.

Gustavsson said DICE also worked on the games latency, which he said was one of the issues they received from the feedback of Battlefield 3.

“We did a lot of tests; some of them were simple stuff just directly correlating to input latency and stuff like that,” Gustavsson said. “People were behind an enemy; they thought they had a perfect kill, but with latency and everything it turned out that they missed, and they wondered why.”

Gustavsson said because Battlefield 3 shipped out with “probably the worst set ups ever” that the DICE team should be “slapped.”

“The full set-ups are supposed to be quite easy to learn and to master, and from there you can start unlocking things and seeing what your preferred setup is,” Gustavsson said. “So, a lot of learning from Battlefield 3 have gone into making the game.”

Battlefield 4 will hit shelves on Oct. 29 for PC, PlayStation 3, PS4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One.
