Winter is still upon us and the wonder of the snow and cold weather like that of Southeast Idaho has likely worn off for you and your family, right? Try out some of these ideas to liven things up around the house:
- Shake things up a bit and rearrange the furniture and accessories. Consider switching pieces from different rooms and repurposing them. An example would be to take a dresser from the spare bedroom and place it in the dining room. Put a runner on it, a mirror with candles or a pretty flower arrangement and you have a buffet.
- Change the focal point of the living room by rearranging the seating and changing the focal point. Arrange furniture using a floor rug to create a conversation zone. Strategically place lamps and tables around to further define the area.
- Consider creating a new kitchen workspace for paying bills or doing homework by bringing a table or a desk into the room, adding some of the pretty storage boxes that are popular right now. Even better yet, create your own storage boxes by using mod-podge glue and pretty wrapping paper and covering spare containers you have around the house. Pretty and environmentally aware since you are repurposing. Tuesday Morning has a great assortment too.
- Rearrange your accessories for a new look. After a while, we don’t see things anymore because they have been there so long. Re-create a new life for the accessories by changing them for new interest. Remember that less is more because too many things just look like clutter. Utilize the visual pyramid with a taller object in the center and smaller items to the sides. Create movement by varying sizes so the eye moves from one thing to another. Keep proportion in mind too because too large pieces in a small room will look as out of place as too small pieces in a large room.
- Add some color to the space by adding some vases with silk flowers (check out JoAnn for some good ideas) in springtime hues and decorative pillows and colored throws. Colored pillows for the chairs or couch will add some spice to the room.
Let your imagination guide you and try out some of these ideas to breathe new life into a cold, winter-weary room.
