Creating support groups is a terrific idea while we are in the swing of the New Year, and the holidays have simmered down and our schedules are resuming their day to day routines.
Perhaps you discovered, while thinking about this new year 2013 that you want to get your book idea in print and published.
You sit down to write and feel inspired and get going on it and feel great that you are doing it, but like New Years resolutions, you find yourself falling short of your goals. You are not fitting it into your schedule like you thought you would and it looks like another year will pass without that publication in print.
There is hope!
I have a solution and it works.
You create a support group for yourself. Now I am using the idea of a writing support group but you can apply this concept to any type of group to further your dreams, goals, and desires. The support group possibilities are endless. There are lots of folks just like yourself that would welcome the opportunity to come together that have your same interests and goals and also need support. It's really fun.
So you let people know that this is what you want to do. You have face book and a whole venue of online outlets to declare your group.
Decide how many you want to attend. I found that 5 in a good number, but start with less if you need to and keep a few spots open for others to join. Close the group at some point when you reach the number that works. Closing the group once the members are committed will deepen your process together and be more effective, I promise.
So this gives you a starting point. Have fun with it. You can call neighbors and friends and let them know what you are doing, they may know of people that have the same interests that you can talk with about the group. Go to local meetings and social events and announce your group that you are starting and take down names and numbers of those who are also interested.
You can even run ads in local publications. Here on Maui we have ways to do that for free in a few other them.
So go for it. This is your year to shine and reach your goals, and it helps to have support.
I will go into more details in a follow up article, but for now you have what you need to get started.
