Christmas, Halloween and Easter all have built in traditions, why not create some Valentines Day traditions for your family? February 14 is no longer just a day for couples and lovers, it can be a special day each year that you and your children celebrate your love for one another and others!
Children love any excuse for a party, crafts and goodies. Be creative in finding ways to teach your kids how to express love and appreciation, even for their pesky siblings.
Here are a few ideas to get you started:
- Have a Valentines Day treasure hunt. Hide bright red heart shaped notes all over the house with short notes about the talents and good character you see in them.
- Make heart shaped cookies and deliver them to the local Senior Living Home.
- Using the candy hearts with messages on them, challenge your kids to write a sentence about their sibling. This may force your son to tell his little sister that she is sweet!
- Help your kids create a video for the family, by holding up flash cards with love messages. Post them to YouTube and give a Valentine card with the online address.
- Place a pretty bowl on the coffee table, fill it with heart shaped love notes for anyone to grab all month long.
Customize some unique traditions just for your family to celebrate the "day of love" each year. Keep in mind that kids have great memories and if you do something fun and creative one year, they will be ready to do it again the next year. That's what family traditions are all about and what makes them an important part of growing up.
Have fun!
