Create frozen candle holders to light your way

The holidays are officially over and the children are back in school, however, the evenings still make for some chants of “I'm bored”.

With evening to morning temperatures being so cold, this is the perfect time to create a fun craft that involves a bit of ice!

All You Magazine features a fun craft creating ice candle votive holders!

If you do not already have the supplies, you can easily pick them up via a quick trip to Wal-Mart (there is one on East Independence next to Kohl's).

The supplies you will need are as follows:

  • Plastic beach bucket, about 8" tall
  • Blue food coloring
  • Plastic cup
  • Masking tape
  • Votive candle

Fill your bucket roughly ¾ full with water and add the food coloring. Place the plastic cup in the water being sure to center it. Keep cup in place by crisscrossing tape across top of bucket (you don't want it all the way to the bottom because you want a bottom to your ice votive holder). Let the combination of bucket and cup freeze overnight.

The next day, remove the bucket from freezer, run it under cool water for a few seconds and flip bucket over to release cup.

Lastly, rest a candle inside the opening.

This is a great craft during very cold weather, as you will only need to set them out on your porch the freeze! It's also a great learning experience for your children.
