Create a Smash book (Video)

Have you heard of a Smash book?

K & Company is the company that sells these books. They can be likened to a blend of a journal, diary and scrapbook. The book contains blank pages of various designs like stripes and florals to decorative pages of odd and ends and tid bits. With each spiralbound Smash book comes a SmashStick. That is a pen on one end and a glue stick on the other.

A knitting/crocheting/crafting Smash book is a creative outlet as well as a useful tool. You can add drawings, lists, photographs, a snipping, a clipping, cartoons, stickers, ideas and suggestions. Glue, stick, smash and you have a permanent memory.

You can use page prompts like; knitting stitch I want to learn, technique I want to try, things I have learned about my craft this year, top 5 teachers I want to take classes with, types of yarn I want to use, events and conferences I want to attend this year, fiber books I am interested in or add your own. Start an inspiration page and several project pages. Paste up pictures of what your work space would look like and use this to design your own studio.

Make your own "smash" book using a spiral bound notebook. Either knit a cover or computer print some knitting image to cover your book. Glue an envelope or two on a page to hold yarn samples and swatches. Jot down your thoughts and goals and run with it. Add ticket stubs and postcards from your last fiber event. Make it fun, make it your own and make it work for your hobby.

The book comes in various colors as well as themes such as wedding, baby and travel. There are accessories of pockets, decorative tape, clips and more. Whether you make your own or purchase a book, it can be a jumping off point for designing and creating as well as memory keeping for your craft.
