On a warm Tuesday night in September designer Mishka Velasco wowed the fall NY Fashion Week 2013 audience with her visions of the power-charged homage to S&M-esque, which included refined garments for a SRO [standing room only] house full of buyers, VIPs and press in a private loft in New York City’s trendy Chelsea downtown area.
Both female and male models engaged in poses akin to S&M, which simultaneously evoked sensuous and cerebral vibes. Wild and passionate outfits juxtaposed with natural nonchalant customary attire.
The highlight of which was the cool navy blue flowing floor length gown: just the color scheme in time for this season. The black vinyl catsuit that Velasco was wearing created a stir, as did her 7 inch black spiked crisscross heels. Some might say too sassy, others would smile knowingly at the passionate, eccentric designer and see elements of Galliano.
This collection evokes a battle between the finance sector and the artsy downtown bohemian culture, a “clash of minds with two different types of people coming together in a semblance of symptomatic harmony.”
When asked of her favorite piece, Velasco says the “plaid button down shirt”. Shane Duffy, of the show "Built" on Style Network, wore the grey version just last week to a red carpet event. “It’s versatile and stylish.”
This was produced in conjunction by NYC Fashion Runway, the go-to for designers for publicity, branding and buyers. Models by Mystik Model Entertainment and hair and makeup styling by Shannon Davis and team.
