Crawfordville woman killed in tragic riding accident

On March 14, a Crawfordville, Florida, horsewoman was killed after an accident while horseback riding.

According to a spokesman with the Wakulla County Sheriff's Office, Whitney Suzanne Steward, 48 years old, died from injuries she suffered after falling from her horse.

The WCSO spokesman says that a neighbor spotted her saddled horse walking around free in his front yard on March 14. Sadly he found Stewart's body close by.

Residents have placed a memorial for Steward at the accident location on Garner Circle East in Crawfordville.

While Stewart did not live in that neighborhood, she did keep her horse nearby and rode often on Garner Circle and elsewhere in the neighborhood.

Stewart rode often and was an experienced rider. Her obituary mentions that Stewart was riding her horse Ace at the time of her death. The obituary was posted by Culley’s Meadow Wood Funeral Home. Stewart was a wife, mother and retired state worker. She was active with horse organizations including the Wakulla Horseman's Association and the Southern Trail Riders.
