Starting this Friday January 20, 2012 Locanda del Lago on Third Street in Santa Monica will off a themed “(U)OVO at Lago” menu to celebrate Cirque du Soleil’s new show “OVO” which debuts at the Santa Monica Pier. Each dish, created by Executive Chef Gianfranco Minuz, will draw its inspiration from “uovo,” the Italian word for “egg” and the cornerstone of the new show’s storyline. Specials will be available during both lunch and dinner through the run of “OVO” (Sunday, March 25).
The restaurant is additionally offering a separate “OVO Express” menu for pre-performance diners, featuring guaranteed in-and-out service in one hour or less. Guests may select their choice of one appetizer and one entrée for $25 per person.
My fav wine bar in Santa Monica, Pourtal, is featuring Australian wines this month. Well worth a stop on your Happy Hour travels. On Wednesday January 18, 2012 Pourtal will be hosting a special tasting from Rosenthal Estates in Malibu. Call them for the deets.
On Thursday January 19, 2012 Café Del Rey will be hosting a wine pairing dinner showcasing wines from the Central Coast’s Summerland Winery, alongside a seasonal, four-course dinner ($65 per person, not including tax and gratuity). Executive Chef Daniel Roberts’ will be pairing the winery’s celebrated boutique selections with California-Mediterranean fare. The prix-fixe menu will be $65 per person including four-courses. Summerland Winery Founder Nebil “Bilo” Zarif will also be on hand to share the winery’s history, offer tasting notes, and answer guests’ questions.
