Pinot Days Grand Tasting at the Barker Hanger in Santa Monica showcased over 80 phenomenal producers of pinot noir. Attendees were able to sample up to 300 pinots representing every important pinot noir region, from the Russian River Valley to the Santa Rita Hills, Oregon to the Anderson Valley, Burgundy to New Zealand to the Sonoma Coast.
Not only were we able to taste these highly acclaimed wines, we met the gifted and charming winemakers who create them and experienced the passion and romance that the pinot noir industry continues to embody. Pinot noir has many diverse styles ranging from modern to earthy to elegant. There were new producers present as well as wines we already know and love from established winemakers. If you were not a pinot devotee when you arrived, you surely were by the end of the day! This was Serious Fun, a virtual Disneyland for adults!
The theme for this year was Stylistic Diversity calling attention to the obvious: Pinot noir is beautifully, insanely versatile. You can find a pinot for every palate, every mood, and every cuisine under the Southern California sun. We who live here enjoy blue skies and an easy, breezy lifestyle. We easily gravitate to pinot noir because it is easy to pair, easy to drink, and fascinating to talk about. Couple that with our area's innovative food and you have a fantastic blend of place with pinot.
