Crash test review: Honda S2000

The Honda S2000 is a very strong vehicle despite its small stature thanks to the high x-bone monocoque frame. The long, rocket shaped chassis has an advantage against front and rear impacts. Side impact accidents however, aren't as good for the S2000. The long rocket shape allows the energy to cut the chassis in half literally wrapping around the impact object.

Side impacts are rare but the do occur. For race use, this vehicle needs to have an additional roll cage installed. The front impact does very well as the long nose and engine compartment absorbs most of the energy. Considering this vehicle is a convertible roadster, it does very well in the crash test. I would not feel safe driving this vehicle above 100 mph due to the minimal side impact protection.

Honda S2000 specifications

  • Straight four aluminum alloy block
  • High X-bone monocoque frame
  • 2864 lb. curb weight
  • Automatic seat belt tensioning system
  • Tire pressure monitoring system
