Crappie fishing is a passion that strikes at the heart of many avid anglers. Some of those anglers take the ultimate step and fish for the National Championship. This years Bass Pro Shops Crappie Masters Classic will be held on Grenada Lake in Grenada, Mississippi.
Known far and wide for big crappie, Lake Grenada is not likely to disappoint the participants or the fans at this year’s Classic. Organizers report that previous championships fished on the lake produced winning bags that averaged over 2 pounds per crappie.
The Power Pole team of Charles and Travis Bunting will return this year to defend their National Championship. The father/son team tallied an even 19 pounds on Tennessee Tombigbee Waterway in Columbus, MS to win the 2012 championship. Given the reputation of Lake Grenada the poundage is expected to increase considerably for the 2013 champs.
The new champs, if they are able to upset the Bunting team, will come from nearly 400 anglers in 200 boats expected for the competition.
Activities begin on Wednesday, September 25th for registration, vendor and sponsor showcase and a welcoming banquet. The banquet is followed by a seminar. Thursday features a media day where participating anglers take media members on a one-fish shoot out.
Fishing takes place on Friday from 7 am to 3:30 pm and Saturday beginning at 7 am and ending at 2 pm. Saturday features the banquet and awards ceremony.
