During difficult economic times, many Los Angeles residents are trying to promote legal services such as graphic design, videotaping, video editing and even dog walking. But there have been people on Craigslist answering ads and asking for phone numbers of the person who writes the ad and any references they have. Afterwards, the advertiser and all their references get a text message from someone like George of Cuban Petes who is using all the numbers to try and promote his club opening.
I decided to test this theory out and put an ad for dog walking. Someone emailed me to tell me they have a beautiful Golden Retriever puppy who needs walking. They asked for three references. I gave them my phone number and two other numbers that are listed for phones I am testing out. Sure enough, George from Cuban Petes texted all of the numbers to inform me of the club opening in Lakewood on Saturday, February 26th asking if I want free passes. This happened on all three lines.
Craigslist can be a great place to meet people or sell old things. However, one has to be very careful when giving out their personal information.
