Craigslist ad sparks rescue effort by Vegas Shepherd Rescue (Photos)

Lady Luck smiled on a German Shepherd named Penny in February after her former owners posted her sale on Craigslist. An appeal on facebook made its way to a German Shepherd Group page and read:

We found this sweet young girl on Craigslist today. We have named her Penny. The owners asked if we would come and get her NOW. So we couldn't take the chance that she would end up in a CA high kill shelter or worse, as a bait dog or tortured as those free Craigslist dogs often do in this area. She has a plan to go to Vegas Shepherd Rescue but we must raise funds to pay for her boarding and transport. We couldn't take the chance and leave her with the owners once they said they wanted her gone. Please help us. We need $350 to get her to Vegas. It is easy to help, just post on the thread the amount you would like to pledge. No amount is too small. We will PM you with the paypal address when we get the freedom picture from the boarding facility. Please help us to save this beautiful girl!!!!

People began pledging but it seemed that her former owners were anxious to get rid of Penny. Concerned that she may be given away to be harmed, the rescue efforts managed to retrieve her in time. An update was posted to inform the pledge doors of her status once she was taken. Shortly thereafter Penny was transported to the Vegas Shepherd Rescue thanks to the donations received on her behalf.

Penny is SAFE. She has been retrieved from her previous owners and is now waiting in boarding for her transport to Vegas Shepherd Rescue where they will find her a fabulous new FUREVER home. Thank you Vegas for saving this beauty.

As of today, Penny is still with Vegas Shepherd Rescue, but it is unclear if she is in a foster home or the rescue's boarding facility. Dogs housed at the facility have people who visit daily to spend time with them. To contact the rescue to inquire about adopting Penny, please call 702.706.SHEP (7437).
