That clock you subliminally hear ticking away in your head -- like the one used on 24 -- is counting down the hours until the gates to the Seventh Annual Craft Lager Festival open wide onto Beer Heaven.
This weekend (August 8 - 9 from 1:00 to 6:00 pm each day) the CLF invades Manitou Springs, Colorado. Here are a few things you need to know that may just entice you to get your butt off the couch and down to the CLF to have some fun in the sun with a beer in your hand:
- USA Today rated it as one of the top ten beer festivals in the entire country.
- It's the only U.S. beer festival that highlights bottom-fermented, hand-crafted lagers.
- Brewers from more than 20 states will be on hand, meaning there's lots and lots of beer!
The CLF was featured on the CBS 4 Denver morning show a few days go. Be sure to check out "Nothing Goes Together Like Beer and Chocloate."
The festival has finally moved to a much bigger venue -- Manitou's Memorial Park! Aside from the new location, they've added a second day, 15 new breweries and 50 new beers. Craft breweries such as Full Sail, Kona, Lagunitas, New Belgium, Samuel Adams, Shmlatz, Breckenridge, Ska and Widmer will be on hand pouring their best brews. Plus, Michelob (think of them not as The Orphan, but as a misunderstood red-headed, step-child of the evil Macro Empire) will be unveiling a number of new craft lagers for the very first time.
This particular festival is so big NBC's Today Show has contacted them and it's possible that Al Roker will be strolling around the grounds (with a beer in his hand perhaps?) with camera crew in tow. Meaning you might actually get your mug on national television!
Saturday's live music will be performed by local bands Big Paddy & Grass It Up; Sunday's musical selection will be provided by The Jack Trades (one of my personal faves) and Creating a Newsense.
There are a plethora of ticket options available, ranging from a standard one person ticket (starting at $35) to a VIP six-pack (at $310), so be sure to check out the entire selection on the Craft Lager Festival ticket website. All proceeds for this event support open space and parks in Manitou Springs and Colorado Springs.
I will see you there because I will be there!
Zivjeli!
