Cracker Jack'D: New caffeinated twist on Cracker Jack

The long time snack treat Cracker Jack gets a caffeinated twist with new product Cracker Jack'D. For those too young to remember, Cracker Jacks are a tasty caramel popcorn treat that comes with a small toy or sticker in the box. It was called a prize when Cracker Jack first came out in the late 1800's. The small rectangular boxes donned red and white packaging with young Sailor Jack and his dog bingo.

Cracker Jack not first food with caffeine in ingredients

Over a century later, however, Frito-Lay decided to add caffeine to the ingredients, making Cracker Jack another high-stimulant snack treat. It is now in the same food categories like Bang!Caffeinated Ice Cream and baking chocolate (squares).

Cracker Jack's spin-off called Cracker Jack’D offers Power Bites with “two flavors that contain coffee, a natural source of caffeine.” The amount of caffeine found in the Cracker Jack'D is the same as one cup of coffee.

Frito-Lay spokesperson Chris Kuechenmeister pointed out in the Boston Globe,

“Cracker Jack’D is a product line specifically developed for adult consumers and will not be marketed to children.”

“The package design and appearance are wholly different from Cracker Jack to ensure there is no confusion among consumers.”

Cracker Jack'D and stimulants

The look may be different, but the caffeine opens the snack to consumers who enjoy stimulants such as caffeine. Although the sweet taste will not replace energy drinks high in stimulants, it may become a treat eaten with a caffeinated drink, making the affects stronger.
