This week, Cigar Rights of America unveiled a new online petition system to help cigar smokers and those who believe in protecting the right to enjoy a cigar reach elected officials more directly.
The first use of this system also came this week, as CRA members and friends were encouraged to sign an online petition asking the New York City Council to block a proposed outdoor smoking ban that would prohibit smoking on beaches, in parks, and other public places.
Using the new system, individuals who filled out the petition were able to send it to each of the council's 51 members, a process that otherwise would be too time consuming for many to undertake.
CRA believes this new system will be used heavily in 2011, as tax, regulatory and smoking ban issues come to ballots across the country.
