With summer in full swing, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) recently announced the launching of a new Pool Safety Campaign with a series of Public Service Announcements (PSAs). Just in time for the July 4th holiday, the new campaign helps raise awareness and improve safety at pools and spas across the country.
CPSC Pool Safety Campaign Saves Lives
The CPSC, along with the American Red Cross and the YMCA of the United States, developed the PSAs for radio, television and print venues available in both English and Spanish. The PSAs will be distributed to 500 cable television stations, 500 radio stations and more than 1,200 local TV stations. You can also see them on the Pool Safety YouTube channel. One featured voice in the spots includes Ming-Na, the voice of Disney’s Mulan and NBC’s ER.
The PSAs remind families that simple steps save lives when it comes to the pool or spa – door alarms, fencing around the pools and spas, safety drain covers and door alarms. Swimming lessons are also important to save lives.
According to water safety expert for the ARC, Connie Harvey, “It’s important that families are aware of the simple steps that can make a big difference around the water. Sharing that knowledge through PSAs is a great first step to helping parents and children stay safe while enjoying their summer activities.”
