The Conservative Political Action Conference announced today that Donald Trump has been added to its list of speakers for its 2013 event.
Trump flirted with a presidential run in 2011 - much to the chagrin of many - before deciding not to run in the Republican primary.
In a press release this morning, ACU president Al Cardenas explained:
“Donald Trump is an American patriot and success story with a massive following among small government conservatives...I look forward to welcoming him back to the CPAC stage next week. Mr. Trump’s previous CPAC appearance was hugely popular among our attendees and we expect it will be even more popular this year.”
It may be unclear how well Trump is received given his birther nods over the past year, but we shall see.
Trump joins a long list of speakers now confirmed for the 40th annual CPAC conference, to be held March 14-16 at the Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center. Those speakers now include Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul, 2012 VP nominee and Wisconsin Rep. Paul Ryan, Florida Senator Marco Rubio, New Hampshire Sen. Kelly Ayotte, Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, almost every other 2012 Republican presidential candidate not named Ron Paul, and dozens more.
