Coyotes sign Schlemko to a two-year extension

The Phoenix Coyotes signed defenseman David Schlemko to a two-year contract, per a recent release. Terms of the contract were not disclosed. Schlemko has been with the Coyotes since 2008.

“We are very pleased to sign David to a multi-year contract," Coyotes general manager Don Maloney said. "David is a skilled defenseman and has developed into a reliable player for us. In today's game where skating, mobility and puck movement are so important for defensemen, David's talent makes us a better team."

The Coyotes originally signed the Edmonton native free agent to a three-year entry level contract in 2007. Schlemko made his NHL debut in 2008 with Phoenix. In 118-games with the Coyotes he has scored six goals and dished out 27-assists.

The 6-foot-1 and 195-pounds defenseman was assigned to the Arizona Sundogs of the Central Hockey league in 2007. Since 2008 he has split his time between the Coyotes and their American Hockey League affiliate, the San Antonio Rampage.
