Champion cowboys from the rodeo arena partner annually with superstars from the professional football field at a gala named Cowboys & Cowboys to raise funds for Sky Ranch Camps. Headquartered outside of the small East Texas town of Van, Sky Ranch has been offering Christ-centered camps for more than fifty years. Proceeds from the event help support the various ministries of Sky Ranch including the scholarship program as well as its leadership and character building programs.
This year retired football star Troy Aikman will serve as the Celebrity Gala Chair for the annual Sky Ranch gala. The 2013 Cowboys & Cowboys event is set for Saturday, March 2 at the Dallas InterContinental Hotel in Dallas, Texas, and will include both silent and live auctions, a raffle, fine dining and lots of entertainment. The sixth annual fundraising event will kick-off at 6:30 pm and will include Aikman and football great Roger Staubach, with dozens of professionals from the rodeo arena such as Larry Mahan, Stran Smith and Rope Myers, in a unified effort to raise funds for Sky Ranch Camps.
Established in 1955, the camp is most noted for its first-class coed Christian summer camps at the Texas location. Today, however, Sky Ranch Camps includes additional locations in Oklahoma and Colorado, and offers year-round family weekend camps and school programs as well as retreats and conferences. Throughout the year Sky Ranch also holds rodeo camps for young riders and competitors as well as a Champions Rodeo Program and an Elite Rodeo Program. These rodeo camps are designed for riders to learn skills according to their experience in roping, barrel racing, pole bending and goat typing. Young rodeo athletes are taught in a positive, Christ centered environment and have the opportunity for Bible study and other typical camp activities during the Rodeo Camps. The Rodeo Camps are led by World Champion Steer Wrestler Rope Myers who serves as Sr. Director of Cowboy Ministries for Sky Ranch.
