One day after making their final cuts in Dallas Cowboys camp to reduce the lineup to 53 players, Dallas named their 2013 practice squad players. According to the team's official website on Sept. 1, Alex Tanney and Danny Coale have been added to that scout team.
Tanney proved throughout Cowboys camp and the preseason that he is worth a long look when it comes to the Cowboys' future. Kyle Orton is the current backup, but Tanney could be groomed to be his eventual replacement.
Alex Tanney finished the preseason 40-of-73 for 423 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions.
Danny Coale is a receiver who has been working with Dallas for a couple of years now. Injuries have hampered his progression, and Dallas cut him along with Anthony Armstrong yesterday. While Armstrong has a chance to hook up with another team, Coale is sticking with the Cowboys practice squad.
Another Dallas receiver that impressed in the Cowboys camp was Tim Benford. The young receiver led all Cowboys in receptions in the preseason with 11 catches for 135 yards. Another preseason leader, linebacker Cameron Lawrence, led Dallas with 15 solo tackles.
Also added to the Cowboys practice squad was safety Jakar Hamilton, guard Ray Dominguez, defensive end Jason Vega and cornerback Micah Pellerin. Dallas also wanted to keep linebacker Brandon Magee, but the Cleveland Browns claimed him.
