San Antonio kicked off the beginning of rodeo season with a Longhorn cattle drive through the heart of the city.
The Western Heritage Parade began near Milam Park and Santa Rosa Hospital and proceeded toward the Alamo on Houston Street.
"The event keeps getting better every year," said 90-year-old Walter Stovall, known by downtowners as "The Godfather of Houston Street," as he watched the parade go by from his vantage point in front of the Majestic Theater.
"This is the best one yet," Stovall grinned. "It couldn't be any better."

Larry Orta brought his family downtown "because we have been hearing about this every year and finally decided to see what it was all about and we are so glad we did."
Olga Kucerak, hosted a fun group of friends who enjoyed the parade from both the sidewalk and from the top of the Majestic Towers building.
"I bought new boots so I had to come out and wear them,” laughed Gwen Orta. "We thought it was just going to be the Longhorn, not just the clowns, cowboys, cowgirls, marching bands, and entertainment."
Crowd estimates ranged from 30,000 to almost 40,000 but there was no doubt, that despite the thunderstorms during the night, it was the largest crowd for the annual event.
