Cowboy Capital Rollergirls upset Arkansas' River Valley Roller Girls 197-193

Last Saturday, February 16, the Cowboy Capital Rollergirls traveled to Fort Smith, Arkansas to take on the River Valley Roller Girls, pulling out a major upset and topping the veteran RVRG team 197-193.

CCR was down by as many as 45 points in the first half, but managed to close the halftime gap to 36, thanks to a huge power jam from the Reckless Intimidator.

After the intermission, CCR regrouped and came out guns a-blazing, tying the game at 148-148 with 12 minutes left in the bout. Gillotine Grace and Psycho Filly then combined for two consecutive strong jams, helping CCR to a 186-168 lead.

But RVRG wasn’t ready to throw in the towel, and they battled back with 25 straight points, pulling ahead 193-186 and leaving just enough time for more one jam.

Trailing by seven and knowing they had to grab lead jammer status in that final jam to have a have a chance at victory, CCR put out some of their strongest blockers in Hott Wheels, Coco Shenailher, IDarau2, and Psycho Filly.

Gillotine Grace donned the jammer panty again, fully aware she needed to not only become the lead jammer, but also had to get through the pack twice in order for CCR to win.

The strategy of having a strong wall paid off, as RVRG’s jammer was not able to get through.

At the same time, Grace made her way through the pack, grabbed lead jammer status, and collected 11 points before calling off the jam and leading her team to a 197-193 come-from-behind victory, CCR’s first victory of the 2013 season.

CCR heads back on the road March 9, 2013 traveling to Denton, TX to take on the North Texas Derby Revolution Fighting Unicorns. Like RVRG, NTDR is also a Women’s Flat Track Derby Association Apprentice League, and CCR is looking to gain revenge on them after a 2012 loss.
