Cowart and Grichuk headline list as Angels announce Spring invites

Kaleb Cowart will finally get his chance to take a look at major league pitching.

Cowart and Randal Grichuk were among 22 non-roster players invited by the Angels to major league camp.

The 20-year-old third baseman earned his look by hitting .276 with 16 home runs and 103 RBI at both Class A Cedar Rapids and advanced Class A Inland Empire. However, Cowart did struggle at the plate in the Arizona Fall League, hitting just .200 in 17 games.

Grichuk returns to camp for the second time, getting his first look last season.

The 21-year-old outfielder, who is known more as the player the Angels selected in front of Mike Trout, hit .298 with the Sixty-Sixers last season and followed that up by hitting .228 in 16 games in the AFL.

Also coming to camp is reliever Fernando Cabrera. Cabrera, who pitched last season with the Mets' Class AAA affiliate in Buffalo, signed a minor-league deal with the Halos.

The 28-year-old right-hander last pitched in the majors in 2010 with the Red Sox and was promptly demoted after getting shelled for three runs, two hits and two walks in 1-1/3 innings during his only appearance.

For his career, Cabrera has an 8-7 record with a 5.24 ERA in 132 appearances over parts of seven seasons with the Indians, Orioles and Red Sox.

The complete list is as follows:

Pitchers: Billy Buckner, Kevin Johnson, Tony Pena, Jo-Jo Reyes, A.J. Schugel, Mitch Stetter, Fernando Cabrera

Catchers: Jett Bandy, Luke Carlin, Carlos Ramirez, Zach Wright

Infielders: Kaleb Cowart, Brendan Harris, Taylor Lindsey, Efren Navarro, Luis Rodriguez, Eric Stamets, Alex Yarbrough

Outfielders: Randal Grichuk, Trent Oeltjen, J.B. Shuck, Matt Young
