'Covert Affairs' adds 'CSI: NY' star Hill Harper as series regular for Season 4

The season finale of "CSI: NY" on Friday (Feb. 22) was the last episode for original cast member Hill Harper, Deadline reports.

The actor is jumping ship to join the cast of USA's spy drama "Covert Affairs" as a new series regular for Season 4.

Harper will play a cocky and ambitious CIA station chief in Latin America who's set his sights on getting a promotion in Washington. He tries to befriend Annie (Piper Perabo) and Auggie (Christopher Gorham) to help him in that effort, but they're wary of his real intentions.

The move is likely due to the possibility that "CSI: NY" will not return for a tenth season. The spinoff series is one of the CBS dramas that is currently "on the bubble" for renewal after airing a shortened 17-episode season.

Harper has appeared on all nine seasons of "CSI: NY" as coroner-turned-investigator Sheldon Hawkes. His contract was up after this season, but the show may move on without him as the rest of the cast has signed on for a possible Season 10.

The show will be replaced with new cop drama "Golden Boy" starting on Friday, March 8. Meanwhile, "Covert Affairs" is currently filming in Toronto for its upcoming 16-episode fourth season set to premiere in the summer.

The series will pick up after Annie and Auggie finally acknowledge their feelings for one another. However, things will get complicated at the agency when Annie aligns with Henry Wilcox (Gregory Itzin) in a dangerous, covert mission involving Arthur (Peter Gallagher) and Auggie that has potentially scandalous consequences for the CIA.
